Kettering Town 1–0 Stratford Town: Giazi penalty proves decisive at Latimer Park
Stratford Town were beaten 1–0 by Kettering Town at Latimer Park on Saturday afternoon in the Southern League Premier Central.

With the home crowd agitated by an organised ownership protest that began midway through the first half and continued into the break, Latimer Park was a noisy, unsettled backdrop — yet Kettering remained composed enough to protect their lead through a second half in which Stratford pressed with increasing desperation.
A penalty converted by Michael Giazi on 21 minutes was the only goal of the game, and it proved enough for a Kettering side who entered the afternoon unbeaten in six league fixtures, having won one and drawn three of those matches while conceding just two goals. The Bards worked hard throughout and were not without their moments, but a combination of a single costly mistake, a disciplined home rearguard and some wasteful finishing in the final third left them with nothing.
Key moments
- 1.GOAL – Giazi pen (21'): A weak back pass from Finley Brennan left Jake Weaver stranded; the goalkeeper came out and brought down Giazi as he reached the ball. Giazi stepped up and sent Weaver the wrong way, stroking the penalty into the bottom-left corner.
- 2.Bearne chance (35'): Stratford's best opening of the match saw the ball flash across the face of goal with Owen James and Tre Mitford unable to get a decisive touch, the chance going begging with the net at their mercy.
- 3.Double substitution (45'): Manager Paul Davis withdrew Tre Mitford and Jack Bearne at half-time, introducing Dan Vann and Harry Hawkins. The Bards shifted to three at the back, with Dan Lafferty dropping into midfield — a tactical reset that gave the second half a different shape.
- 4.Jack Storer yellow (52'), Paul McCone yellow (72'), Kobe Hall yellow (79'): Stratford picked up three bookings in the second half as frustration mounted, with Storer cautioned after a dispute with the referee, McCone for a foul, and substitute Kobe Hall booked shortly after coming on.
- 5.Late offside call: Deep into added time, McKauley Manning turned in what would have been an equaliser only for the linesman to flag for offside, ending Stratford's last realistic chance of salvaging a point.
Dan Lafferty was the standout performer in a Stratford shirt, the commentary singling him out repeatedly for a series of important defensive interventions and his drive in possession — described as comfortably the best player on the pitch on either side. The Bards showed enough to suggest they can compete at this level, but the gift of a penalty and a lack of cutting edge in the final third cost them dearly. Kobe Hall and McKauley Manning added fresh energy after coming on, yet the attacking penetration that might have unlocked a resolute back four never quite materialised.
