Bards Hold Firm for Point at Bromsgrove as Lafferty and Roberts Cancel Out Rouslers' Lead
Stratford Town came from behind twice to draw 2-2 away at Bromsgrove Sporting in a Southern League Premier Central fixture at the UK Electrical Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Bards' first chance of the night came within 90 seconds — Adam Jasper working the ball down the left before Kieran Freeman struck the post with Bromsgrove's Tony Breeden nowhere near his back post. Within two minutes, the same corner routine that had undone Stratford on the previous Saturday had done so again: a flick on at the near post, a looping ball across goal, and a man stooping on the line to divert it in. The commentator's wry aside to "Mr and Mrs Maka" captured the mood — one-nil down, familiar manner, and a steep hill still to climb. When Lafferty's low drive finally arrowed past Breeden to make it 1-1, the Bromsgrove radio contingent, voluble all evening, went quiet. The Bards had announced themselves.
Bromsgrove, third in the division and entering the evening having lost only once all season, struck from their very first corner to lead inside three minutes, and the Bards — playing uphill throughout the opening half — spent much of that period scrambling to limit the damage. Yet Stratford grew into the contest steadily, and when the slope tilted in their favour after the break, the game shifted with it. Dan Lafferty's composed finish from the edge of the area on 58 minutes drew the Bards level, only for a penalty on 71 minutes to restore Bromsgrove's advantage. Stratford refused to fold. Kory Roberts stabbed home from close range on 74 minutes to level again, and the side then held on for the remainder — weathering a succession of set pieces and Bromsgrove's double substitution — to seal a point that stretched the Bards' unbeaten run to six matches. With Bromsgrove without their influential Chris Hussey, who watched from the stands, the Rouslers leaned heavily on direct play and dead-ball deliveries. Stratford's back line was repeatedly exposed to second-phase pressure from corners, conceding that way once in the first half, but showed greater resilience as the match wore on. Lafferty's goal — his second in two Southern Premier League games — made him the Bards' leading scorer in the competition, and the returning Zach McKenzie, deployed at right back in the second half, picked up a yellow card late on (83') as the pressure of the closing stages told.

Stratford arrived at the UK Electrical Stadium against a Bromsgrove side who had conceded the fewest defeats in the division and who carried the additional threat of a pronounced downhill slope in the first half — an advantage the commentator noted was significant and visible even from the press box. That the Bards left with a point, having been behind at half-time and again on 71 minutes, spoke to the resilience Paul Davis's side have shown across what is now a six-match unbeaten run. Lafferty's continued development as a goal threat from the edge of the area was the night's clearest individual theme, and Finn Brennan's work down the left caused Bromsgrove problems throughout the second period. The visit of Hitchin Town to the Arden Garages Stadium on Saturday — a Remembrance Day and Heritage Day fixture — will provide the next opportunity to extend that run further.
